Vapor barrier membranes
Choosing the right vapour barrier
sd value, width and format – what suits your construction?
All vapour barriers in this category are PE films from quality-controlled manufacturing in Germany, approved by building authorities for structural engineering and meeting fire class E to DIN 4102. The most important difference is the sd value – it determines how strongly the membrane inhibits vapour transmission.
Vapour barrier blue – sd 100 m
Standard vapour barrier for common constructions in structural engineering. Proven for standard roofs, internal insulation and dry constructions. From EUR 0.87/m².
To the sd-100 vapour barrier → sd 145 mVapour barrier blue/white – sd 145 m
Particularly strong PE film with a higher sd value and 10 cm stripe grid for easy overlap measurement. For higher requirements. From EUR 0.95/m².

What matters
Installing a vapour barrier correctly – the 3 most important points
The right sd value
The sd value must match the construction. Too low: moisture penetrates. Too high: drying is prevented. We are happy to advise if in doubt.
Professional bonding
Overlaps, connections and penetrations must be bonded airtight. The tape must be compatible with the film. We stock matching accessories.
Tear-free installation
Lay the film without tension, allow no tears or holes. Repair damaged areas immediately with adhesive tape.
Practical advice
Buy vapour barriers – with the right advice
As a specialist contractor for blow-in insulation, we install vapour barriers every day and know the typical sources of error from practice: wrong sd values, unsuitable tapes, poorly bonded connections. We help you choose the right product for your construction – and recommend the matching tape.
Frequently asked questions
Frequently asked questions about PE vapour barriers
What does the sd value of a vapour barrier mean?
The sd value (water vapour diffusion-equivalent air layer thickness) indicates how strongly a vapour barrier inhibits vapour transmission. An sd value of 100 m means the film slows vapour transport as much as a 100 m thick layer of still air. The higher the value, the more vapour-tight the film.
When should I use sd 100 m and when sd 145 m?
The sd-100 film is sufficient for standard constructions in structural engineering. The sd-145 film is slightly more vapour-tight and robust – suitable for constructions with higher requirements or where a higher diffusion resistance is specified. We are happy to advise if in doubt.
Do I need a roll or a cut piece?
Rolls (50 m² or 100 m²) are more economical for larger areas. Cut pieces (1 m²) are ideal for small supplementary or repair areas, or where half a roll would be too much. Choose width 2 m or 4 m depending on the construction and space available.
Which tape is compatible with the PE vapour barrier?
For bonding PE vapour barriers, tapes specifically designed for smooth PE surfaces should be used. We stock suitable tapes in the bonding category. Please do not use a general-purpose tape – long-term adhesion cannot be guaranteed.
What is the difference between a vapour barrier and a dust protection membrane?
A vapour barrier controls moisture transport and protects the construction from condensation damage. The dust protection membrane RB has no vapour control effect – it only prevents insulation fibres or particles from falling into the living space. The two products have different functions and do not replace each other.
Are these vapour barriers approved by building authorities?
Yes. All PE vapour barriers in this category are manufactured in Germany from quality-controlled production and approved by building authorities for structural engineering. Fire class E to DIN 4102 is met.
