Material comparison

Wood fibre, cellulose or mineral fibre – which blow-in insulation is right?

All three materials are blown in by machine and fill cavities seamlessly. The difference lies in focus: wood fibre excels at summer heat protection, cellulose is the all-rounder, mineral fibre scores on fire protection.

PropertyWood fibreCelluloseMineral fibre
Summer heat protection ★★★ Very high ★★★ Very high ★★ Medium
Winter insulation ★★★ Very good ★★★ Very good ★★★ Very good
Ecology ★★★ 100% natural ★★★ Recycled paper ★ Mineral
Fire protection ★★ Flame-retardant ★★ Flame-retardant ★★★ Non-combustible
Acoustic insulation ★★★ Very good ★★★ Very good ★★ Good
Recommendation: Wood fibre is the first choice for ecological construction projects and components with high summer heat protection requirements – especially in roof areas. For fire protection requirements, we recommend mineral fibre.

Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions about wood fibre blow-in insulation

What is naturheld Flow and what is it made of?

naturheld Flow is a loose wood fibre blow-in insulation made from 100% pure wood fibres – without chemical additives. It is blown by machine into enclosed cavities and is fully biodegradable.

Why is wood fibre particularly good for summer heat protection?

Wood fibre has a very high thermal mass. This means heat penetrates the building more slowly – roof spaces stay noticeably cooler in summer. This effect is particularly pronounced with wood fibre.

Which components is wood fibre blow-in insulation suitable for?

naturheld Flow is suitable for roof slopes, timber-frame walls, stud bays, timber joist ceilings and storey ceilings – wherever there is an enclosed cavity that can be filled by machine.

What is the difference between wood fibre and cellulose?

Both are ecological blow-in insulation materials with very good insulation values. Wood fibre consists of pure wood fibres and is fully natural. Cellulose (Unifloc) is made from recycled paper and is available as both pour-in and blow-in insulation.

Do I need special tools for processing?

Yes. Wood fibre blow-in insulation is processed by machine using a blowing unit. The material is not suitable for manual pouring. Our specialist contractor is happy to carry out the installation.

Is wood fibre suitable for energy-efficient renovation?

Yes, particularly well. Wood fibre blow-in insulation can be blown into existing constructions with minimal intervention – ideal for renovating roof slopes, timber-frame walls and timber joist ceilings without dismantling.
