Sealing membranes
Cold self-adhesive – no torch needed
ISOPLAN®-KSK – self-adhesive polymer bitumen sealing membrane
KSK stands for cold self-adhesive: the membrane has a full-surface self-adhesive layer on the underside. Peel off the protective film, press onto the prepared substrate – done. No flame, no welding equipment, no specialist contractor required. Watertight and driving-rain resistant immediately after installation.

Application and installation
Where and how is ISOPLAN®-KSK installed?
Prepare the substrate
Substrate must be clean, dry and load-bearing. For absorbent substrates such as concrete or masonry, a bitumen primer is recommended – it significantly improves adhesion and ensures a permanent bond.
Peel protective film and press
Peel the protective film from the adhesive layer, position the membrane and press firmly – especially at the edges and overlaps. Overlaps at least 10 cm; more generous at corners and connections.
Immediately watertight
After pressing, the membrane is immediately watertight and driving-rain resistant. No curing time, no waiting – the surface is sealed directly after installation.
Typical application areas
Vertical and horizontal – for basement, balcony and floor slab
ISOPLAN®-KSK is approved for vertical and horizontal surfaces – an important advantage over many other bitumen membranes. Basement walls from outside, floor slabs, retaining walls, balconies and terraces: everywhere the self-adhesive polymer bitumen membrane provides permanent moisture protection. No welding torch needed, no specialist contractor required.
Frequently asked questions
Frequently asked questions about KSK sealing membranes
What does KSK mean?
KSK stands for cold self-adhesive (German: kaltselbstklebend) – the membrane has a full-surface bitumen adhesive layer on the underside and is installed without heat or flame. Peel the protective film, press, done. Unlike standard bitumen membranes, which are torch-applied.
Do I need primer before the KSK membrane?
On smooth, non-absorbent concrete not always strictly necessary, but recommended. On absorbent substrates such as rough concrete, masonry or calcium silicate blocks, bitumen primer is important – it penetrates the substrate and creates a uniform, well-bonding surface. Without primer on absorbent substrates, adhesion may deteriorate over time.
Can ISOPLAN®-KSK also be used on vertical surfaces?
Yes. ISOPLAN®-KSK is explicitly approved for vertical and horizontal surfaces – basement exterior walls, retaining walls, foundations, balconies, floor slabs. This is not a given: many bitumen membranes are only suitable for horizontal applications.
How large must overlaps be?
Minimum 10 cm at longitudinal seams, minimum 15 cm at cross seams. At corners, valleys and connections, overlaps should be more generous. Press overlap zones firmly – especially at the edges to prevent water from creeping underneath.
Can KSK membranes be plastered or covered directly?
KSK sealing membranes are primarily designed for earth-contact and water-exposed areas. On basement walls they are typically covered by backfilling. For visible areas such as balconies, a suitable covering (tiles, decking, gratings) must be applied.
Which roll size is suitable for a typical residential basement?
The 15 m² roll is usually the most economical choice – cheaper per m² (EUR 9.47), fewer seams. The 5 m² or 10 m² roll for individual wall sections. The 1 m² piece for offcuts and trial bonding.
