Silicone alternative
Seal joints without the silicone disadvantages
DOMOFLEX – paintable, bonds when damp, no mould
Silicone is difficult to paint over, develops mould in wet rooms and bonds poorly to damp substrates. DOMOFLEX all-weather sealant solves all three problems: it is paintable after curing, bonds even on damp surfaces and does not have the typical mould disadvantages of silicone joints. For expansion and connection joints in roofing, façade, window and sanitary applications – indoors and outdoors.

DOMOFLEX vs. silicone
Three advantages silicone doesn't have
Paintable
DOMOFLEX is paintable with standard paints and varnishes after curing. Silicone accepts no paint – anyone wanting to paint over a joint later must remove silicone completely and re-seal. With DOMOFLEX this is unnecessary.
Bonds when damp
DOMOFLEX bonds even on damp substrates – an important advantage for outdoor applications where the substrate is rarely completely dry. Standard silicones require an absolutely dry substrate for optimal adhesion.
No mould
Silicone joints in wet rooms and bathrooms tend to develop mould on the surface. The silicone-free formulation of DOMOFLEX does not have comparable mould disadvantages – particularly relevant in bathrooms, kitchens and outdoors.
For indoors and outdoors – one product for all joints
All-weather sealant for roofing, façade, windows and sanitary
DOMOFLEX is designed as an all-weather sealant for use in all weather conditions – including cold and damp. Indoors it suits windows, door connections and sanitary joints. Outdoors it works for roof-to-wall connections, façade joints, expansion joints and sheet metal connections. The 300 ml cartridge fits any standard cartridge gun.
Frequently asked questions
Frequently asked questions about DOMOFLEX silicone alternative
What is the difference between DOMOFLEX and silicone?
DOMOFLEX is a solvent-based synthetic resin sealant without silicone. Compared to silicone, DOMOFLEX is paintable, bonds on damp substrates and does not develop mould like silicone joints in wet rooms. Silicone is chemically more elastic but cannot be painted over and bonds poorly on damp substrates.
Can DOMOFLEX be painted over after curing?
Yes – this is one of the key advantages over silicone. After full curing, DOMOFLEX can be painted with standard interior and exterior paints. Allow the drying time before painting – typically 24 hours under normal conditions.
Which colour if I'm not sure?
Transparent is the safest choice when unsure – barely visible and suits almost all substrates. White is the second universal option for light rooms and façades. Grey, brown and black are targeted choices for coloured connections.
Is DOMOFLEX suitable for sanitary areas (bathroom, kitchen)?
Yes – DOMOFLEX is suitable for sanitary areas and does not have the mould disadvantages of classic silicone joints. For permanently submerged areas (e.g. bath edge below water), a specialist sanitary sealant with fungicide protection is recommended.
How wide can the joint be?
DOMOFLEX is suitable for joints of approximately 2 to 20 mm width. For wider joints (over 20 mm), a backing rod should be inserted so the compound does not penetrate too deeply and remains sufficiently elastic.
