Light, medium-weight or heavy?

Solitex Mento – three weight classes for different requirements

All Solitex Mento sub-roof membranes are highly vapour-open and driving-rain resistant – the difference lies in mechanical load capacity, maximum weather exposure duration and area of use. The connect versions additionally feature integrated self-adhesive zones for fast, secure overlap bonding without a separate tape.

Connect or standard? The connect versions have integrated self-adhesive zones along the membrane length. This makes overlap bonding faster and more reliable – no separate tape needed for the longitudinal seams. Tape is still required for cross seams and connections.

Areas of application

Where is a sub-roof membrane installed?

1

On the sarking board

The sub-roof membrane is laid on full sarking boards, MDF or wood fibre panels – directly beneath the roof tiles or covering, with counter battens above.

2

Between rafters

As an underlay membrane directly between or beneath the rafters – for between-rafter insulation, without full sarking boards.

3

Protection from above

Prevents driving rain, wind-blown snow and condensation from the covering reaching the insulation – vapour-open inward for drying.

Our practical recommendation

For most residential buildings: Solitex Mento 3000 connect

Solitex Mento 3000 connect is our best-selling product in this category – and for good reason. The medium-weight version is robust enough for all common residential buildings and timber construction, the 4-month weather exposure gives sufficient buffer on site, and the self-adhesive zones make installation noticeably faster. For simpler applications, Mento 1000 is sufficient; for particularly demanding ones, Mento 5000.

Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions about sub-roof membranes

What is the difference between a sub-roof membrane and an underlay membrane?

Both terms are often used interchangeably. Technically, a sub-roof membrane is laid on sarking boards and sits directly beneath the roof covering. An underlay membrane lies without sarking boards directly beneath the battens, between the rafters. Solitex Mento is suitable for both applications.

What is the difference between Mento 1000, 3000 and 5000?

The number indicates the surface weight in g/m². Mento 1000 is light and for ancillary buildings. Mento 3000 is medium-weight and the standard for residential buildings. Mento 5000 is heavy, particularly tear-resistant and has 6 months weather exposure for longer construction periods.

What does the connect version offer over the standard version?

Connect versions have integrated self-adhesive zones along the membrane length. This means longitudinal seams are bonded directly during installation without a separate tape. This saves time and produces more consistent overlaps. Tape is still required for cross seams and connections.

Which roof pitch is Solitex Mento suitable for?

Solitex Mento sub-roof membranes are designed for pitched roofs. The minimum roof pitch depends on the type of roof covering and is specified in the installation guidelines.

How are overlaps and connections sealed?

Overlaps are sealed with suitable adhesive tapes or the self-adhesive zones of the connect versions. Connections to dormers, chimneys and other penetrations require special connection details – we stock matching accessories.

What does 4 months weather exposure mean for Mento 3000?

The installed membrane can be exposed to weathering for up to 4 months without protective roof covering without losing its protective function. This gives sufficient buffer for longer construction periods. Mento 5000 offers 6 months for additional security.
