Outdoor requires UV protection
Tapes for façade and sub-roof – why outdoor tapes are different
Adhesive tapes for façade and sub-roof membranes face different stresses than indoor tapes for vapour barriers: UV radiation, temperature fluctuations, moisture and mechanical stress during installation. Using an indoor tape outdoors risks delamination and leaks – often only visible years later.

Targo ULTRA – choosing the right width
Targo ULTRA in four widths – which when?
Standard width
For overlaps of sub-roof and façade membranes. Standard for most applications. From EUR 0.54/m.
More overlap
Slightly more adhesive surface for a more secure bond – recommended under high wind load or where 50 mm is tight. From EUR 0.65/m.
Wide connections
For wide overlaps and connections to roof windows, dormers and similar detail points. From EUR 0.83/m.
Special tape
For valley connections and particularly wide overlap zones. Covers uneven surfaces over a large area. From EUR 1.74/m.
Outdoor is not the same as indoor
UV protection determines the service life of the bond
A common mistake on building sites: indoor tapes (such as Targo RAPID or basic acrylic tapes) are also used outdoors because they are close to hand. UV radiation degrades the adhesive layer of such tapes within months. The result: loose overlaps, water ingress, structural damage. Always use UV-resistant tapes for outdoor applications – Targo ULTRA or Tescon Vana.
Frequently asked questions
Frequently asked questions about bonding façade and sub-roof membranes
What is the difference between Targo ULTRA and Targo BENDIX?
Targo ULTRA is specifically developed for outdoor applications – UV-resistant, moisture-resistant, 12 months weather exposure, for overlaps and connections outdoors. Targo BENDIX is more flexible and heat-resistant up to 120°C – suitable for indoor and outdoor use, particularly for penetrations and connections with difficult geometries.
Can I use Targo RAPID outdoors?
No. Targo RAPID is designed exclusively for indoor applications (vapour barriers) and is not UV-resistant. For outdoor applications, Targo ULTRA must be used. An indoor tape used outdoors quickly loses its adhesion under UV radiation and can lead to leaks.
When should I use Targo Fix 1A instead of a tape?
Targo Fix 1A is used for connections on rough, uneven or damp substrates – such as concrete, masonry or rough timber – where a tape would not achieve sufficient adhesion. The advantage: it bonds directly to the substrate without primer.
What is the difference between Tescon Vana and Tescon No.1?
Tescon Vana is the standard all-round tape with fleece carrier – robust, weatherproof, for most indoor and outdoor applications. Tescon No.1 is even more flexible and stretchable – particularly suitable for difficult geometries, curves and critical detail points where Tescon Vana would be too stiff.
What are nail sealing tapes and do I need them?
Nail sealing tapes are laid beneath the batten nail rows and seal the nail penetrations in sub-roof or façade membranes. Without nail sealing tapes, nail holes are potential leak points. We stock matching nail sealing tapes in the nail sealing tapes subcategory.
Does the tape have to match the membrane?
Yes. Targo membranes should be bonded with Targo adhesive technology; pro clima membranes with pro clima tapes. Cross-brand combinations can impair adhesion and void the system guarantee.
