Compression joint sealing tapes
The principle of the pre-compressed sealing tape
Pre-compressed when installed – expands to joint width
Contega Fiden Exo is a pre-compressed joint sealing tape: it is inserted into the joint in a compressed state and then expands in a controlled manner to the existing joint width. The tape fills the joint completely, adapts to irregularities and provides a permanent seal against wind, driving rain and dust – vapour-open inward, driving-rain resistant outward.

Pre-compressed tape vs. silicone
Why pre-compressed tape outperforms silicone at window joints
Vapour-open instead of vapour-blocking
Contega Fiden Exo is vapour-open – moisture can diffuse inward and dry out. Silicone blocks everything: moisture that gets behind silicone can no longer escape.
Tolerates movement permanently
Timber moves, building components settle. The pre-compressed tape accommodates movement elastically without tearing or detaching. Silicone fatigues and cracks at adhesion points after years.
Fast installation with no curing time
Insert, press, done – immediately driving-rain resistant. No masking, no waiting, no cleaning of excess material. Saves significant time on site.
Practical tip for selection
If in doubt, choose the larger variant
The most common question about pre-compressed tapes: which variant for my joint? The answer is simpler than expected – measure the actual joint width after the window has been installed. If it is 5 mm, for example, choose the tape with the 3–6 mm or 5–10 mm joint range. When in doubt, choose the variant with the larger range – too tight is worse than having enough play. We are happy to advise.
Frequently asked questions
Frequently asked questions about Kompri joint sealing tapes
What is a pre-compressed tape and how does it work?
A pre-compressed joint sealing tape consists of an impregnated foam tape that is tightly compressed onto an adhesive film roll. When installed it is inserted into the joint and then expands in a controlled manner to the joint width. This creates a permanently elastic joint seal with no curing time required.
How do I choose the right variant?
What matters is the actual joint width in the installed state. Measure the joint after fitting the window or door and choose the tape whose joint range covers that width. For joints at the upper end of a range, choose the next larger variant for reliable coverage.
What is the difference between tape width and joint range?
The tape width (10/12/15/20 mm) is the width of the tape on the façade – how much surface it covers. The joint range (e.g. 3–6 mm) indicates the joint width the tape fills in its expanded state. Both must suit the situation: narrow joints need narrow tapes, wide coverage requires wider tapes.
Is Contega Fiden Exo for interior or exterior use?
Contega Fiden Exo is designed exclusively for exterior use – for the outer, vapour-open and driving-rain resistant closure of connection joints. For interior window connections the Contega SL / Solido SL connection tapes are the right choice.
Can pre-compressed tape also be used in refurbishment?
Yes. Contega Fiden Exo is suitable for new construction and refurbishment. In refurbishment, the old joint sealing material (silicone, mineral wool) is removed, the joint cleaned and the tape inserted. It adapts elastically to irregular joint courses.
How long does a pre-compressed tape last?
High-quality tapes like Contega Fiden Exo are designed for a service life of at least 25 years. The impregnated foam structure does not rot and retains its elastic properties permanently – unlike silicone, which can become brittle over the years.
