Self-adhesive and visually coordinated

KSK roof membranes with aluminium surface – in 5 colours

These self-adhesive roof sealing membranes made of elastomer bitumen are specifically designed for low-pitched roofs – garden buildings, carports, sheds and outbuildings. The coated aluminium surface is permanently UV-resistant and weatherproof. And unlike simple black roofing felt, these membranes are available in five colours – so the roof blends visually into its surroundings.

Quantity calculation for garden building roofs: Calculate the area in m² and add approximately 15% for overlaps (minimum 10 cm) and cutting waste. For a roof area of 8 m², at least 10 m² of material is needed. The 10 m² roll is the most economical choice for areas from 7 m².

Simple installation

A sealed roof in three steps

1

Prepare the substrate

Roof surface clean, dry and dust-free. Remove old roofing felt and any loose material. On absorbent substrates (timber, OSB) a bitumen primer is recommended for better adhesion.

2

Install from eaves to ridge

Always install membranes from eaves to ridge – each membrane overlaps the one below by at least 10 cm. Peel protective film, roll out, press firmly. Press overlaps and seams well.

3

Connections and joints

Connections at walls, dormers and roof edges are sealed with the wide bitumen aluminium tape (500 mm) or matching aluminium tape widths. Immediately watertight – no curing time.

Garden building or carport – waterproof correctly

Which colour fits – and how much do you need?

Colour choice depends on the surroundings: black is universal, brown harmonises with timber façades, brick red suits red brick buildings. When unsure, the 1 m² cut piece allows an on-site colour test. For quantity calculation: roof area plus 15% allowance, and the 10 m² roll is worthwhile for areas from 7 m².

Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions about self-adhesive roof membranes

What is the difference between roof membranes and KSK sealing membranes?

Roof membranes have a visible aluminium surface and are designed for exposed roof surfaces – garden buildings, carports, low-pitched roofs. Available in multiple colours, optimised for UV exposure from above. KSK sealing membranes (ISOPLAN) are for earth-contact and concealed applications such as basement walls and floor slabs.

Which colour should I choose?

Black is the most universal and the bestseller. Brown harmonises with timber construction and natural wood carports. Copper makes a deliberate visual statement. Brick red/terracotta suits buildings with red tiles. Lead grey is classically understated. Unsure? The 1 m² cut piece enables a colour test before ordering the large roll.

Which roof pitch are the membranes suitable for?

These self-adhesive roof membranes are suitable for low-pitched roofs – typically mono-pitch and flat roofs of outbuildings. Not for steeply pitched roofs. The minimum pitch is determined by the manufacturer; please ask if in doubt.

Can I stick the new membrane directly over old roofing felt?

Generally possible if the old felt still adheres firmly with no loose or lifted areas. Loose areas must be secured or removed first. A clean, stable substrate is the prerequisite for a durable bond of the new KSK membrane.

Do I need primer on timber?

Recommended – bitumen primer penetrates the timber and improves long-term adhesion. The membrane will adhere without primer on timber but long-term bonding is more reliable with it.

What do I use for connections at walls and edges?

For connections, edges and joints at walls, dormers and roof edges, use matching bitumen aluminium tapes in 50 mm, 75 mm, 100 mm or 500 mm widths depending on the connection area. The 500 mm wide tape is particularly suitable for wall connections.
